X-mas Cookies Complete!

20 12 2009

PART 1

Holy crap, I am exhausted from baking the x-mas cookies!  I spent all day baking.  This is what I started with…

and this is the result!

In my last post I had listed 10 cookies, but only baked 8.  I always seem to bite off more than I can chew.  Where is the 8th one (truffle balls)?  Yeah, I took a picture before I put it in.  Im going to take my box over to Bryant’s and hopefully he’ll be able to flex is photog skills and make my cookies look better.  :)  If you’re interested in the recipes I used, refer back to my first post and click each cookie to see the link.

I put them in baker’s boxes and affixed some cute labels that I made (at the office hehe):

Then I giftwrapped them like this:

I definitely got a sugar rush/high from tasting each batch…not to mentioned probably gained a few pounds in the process.  The pfeffernussen is my favorite out of the bunch.  It’s spicy and has a soft, chewy and fluffy texture.  YUM!  I hope they all enjoy the gifts!

PART 2

So there is a part 2 of the kitchen madness this weekend.  My brother came up to visit and he requested crepes.  I made savory and sweet crepes for him.  I used Alton Brown’s recipe for the crepes.  The only modification I made was that I cut the butter quantity by half.  I still felt like it was too buttery and greasy for my taste.  I think I’ll omit the butter the next time.  For the savory crepes, I made scrambled eggs with green peppers and onions.  For the sweet crepes, I made cinnamon apples.

I must confess…both were delicious.

The day before we checked out Kasa Indian in SF.  They opened up their 2nd location on Fillmore and we were their first customer!  They were still running around finishing up the restaurant space…and unfortunately they still had wet paint.  My brother got some paint on his jacket but they gave us a $10 coupon for our next visit to compensate for the paint.

I loved the metal plates…sorta prison-like.  We shared lamb curry & karahi paneer kati rolls and turkey kebab & chicken tikka masala thali plate.  I’m not sure if the picture does it justice, but the portions were HUGE!  I think one roll was plenty enough to fill up my stomach.  My personal favorite was the turkey kebab and the raita (yogurt) was fantastic .  The food overall was flavorful, but felt like something was missing.

Christmas Cookies

16 12 2009

Instead of buying gifts this year, I decided to bake my friends the following Christmas cookies:

  1. chocolate gingerbread
  2. checkerboard cookies
  3. pfeffernussen
  4. pinwheel cookies
  5. pumpkin chocolate bars
  6. oatmeal crasin white chocolate cookies
  7. viennese crescent cookies
  8. cream cheese bows
  9. lintzer sables
  10. chocolate cake balls

The majority of the recipes came from Martha Stewart.  I already made 5 of the cookies and they’re waiting in the freezer to be baked.  (It would have been 6 except that the chocolate thumbprints asked for too much salt…so they turned out to be salty chocolate balls….LOL!  Do ya get the SouthPark joke? :P )  I have 5 more to make and bake all of them by next monday.  I hope I can finish them in time!  I’m looking forward to wrapping them up too!
